EXPRESSIONISM

Expressionism is a softer and more romantic style than Avant-garde. It is characterized by lightness and picturesqueness achieved not by the number of paintings on walls, but rather by the harmony of colors and combination of light and shadow.

Expressionism, as a style, appeared in Europe at the end of the XIX and beginning of the XX century. It literally won over with its dynamics and energy. Such interior should be decorated in bright colors. Possible colors are red, blue, green, lemon. The main thing is to avoid heavy and deep tones. Colors can be either juicy, bright (but not acidic), or faded, washed out. Expressionism values the general mood and welcomes unique details.

The main goal of a person who wants to decorate their home interior in Expressionism style is to impress their guests, to evoke emotions in them, even if they are negative.

Lighting can also help to create this style: place beautifully made sconces and floor lamps, that give soft light, in parallel with the “central” light. Colored lighting – greenish or pinkish- looks great. Shades for lamps should be made of light materials in light colors - wicker, plastic, fine porcelain or fabric.

Plastic or wicker furniture is the best choice for this style. Plastic furniture doesn’t at all imply tables and chairs from street cafes - on the contrary, it is expensive multi-colored furniture, like cabinets, armchairs and bedside tables with colorful almost contrasting accessories.

In such interiors, plastic is used almost everywhere, from furniture and accessories to wall and floor decoration. Moreover, wall decoration shouldn’t be rough. For example, plastic panels provide an excellent opportunity to experiment, to create new contours, shapes and images. You can decorate walls with plastic up to half, you can place panels crosswise, or try new combinations of colors and textures.

Curtains in Expressionism style are bright and attract attention. This is just the case when you can safely decorate a window with red, lemon, or purple curtains. There is no place though for elaborate ruffles and frills, romantic folds and veils. Plastic and fabric blinds, light short curtains that's what you need if you’ve chosen Expressionism interior style. Unusual shapes of curtains are also welcomed.

Paintings, intricate chandeliers, colored plastic vases can become accessories in Expressionism style, but in general this style doesn’t accept abundance of unnecessary things. This style is for those who are tired of the usual environment and want something bright, original and exotic.
